Plant Collections
The Arboretum’s living plant collections can be explored and searched using our interactive web mapping application or by using our online database and collection maps.
Collection Maps Web Application
The UC Davis Arboretum Collection Maps web application lets you interactively explore our plant collections using your web browser. It allows you to zoom to any part of our collections, search for plants, display plant images and research, and print custom maps and tables. To get started with our interactive web mapping application, click on the button below.
Online Database
The UC Davis Arboretum Living Plant Collection Database allows you to search for plants by scientific or common name, and displays source and location information for finding them using our collection maps. To search the plant database, click on the button below.
To find the exact location of a plant in the Arboretum follow these steps:
- Click on the button above to search the plant inventory database.
- Type the scientific OR common name (or partial name) into the search form (e.g. California black oak or Quercus kellogii).
- Click on an accession number (i.e. A74.0001) to view the collection location code.
- Return to this page and open the corresponding collection map file for that collection location code (i.e. FOOT - California Foothill).
- Use the Grid code (e.g. 10-B8 for page 10, grid location B8) or consult the alphabetical plant index at the end of the map book to find the map page number and grid location of the plant in the collection.
- Refer to the Arboretum Sections map on the last page of each collection map book to pinpoint a collection’s location within the Arboretum.
The database is updated as information becomes available. If you have questions regarding this page or locating a plant within the Arboretum, please contact the Arboretum’s Curator, Mia Ingolia at meingolia@ucdavis.edu.
